Where medicine grows - our mountains, our inspiration
Sustainable practice in the service of health and nature conservation
Medicinal plants are one of nature's most precious gifts, and their value largely depends on the habitat where they grow. The mountains of Vlasina, Rtanj, Cer, Rudnik and Tara stand out as ecologically extremely clean areas, rich in biodiversity, untouched nature and ideal conditions for the growth of medicinal plants. Their geomorphological diversity, altitude, microclimate and absence of industrial pollution make them natural treasures of herbal medicine.
It is in these areas that the company Alternativa Medica has been conducting careful and responsible collection of medicinal plants for 25 years, in accordance with the principles of sustainable harvesting and conservation of natural resources.
Ecological peculiarity of these mountain zones
• Vlasina is known for its wetlands, meadows and forests that abound with rare and endemic species. Thanks to the preserved water balance and the specific altitude, the herbs from this area have a high concentration of active ingredients.
• Rtanj, a mountain with a mystical reputation, stands out for its exceptional floristic wealth. Its pastures and hillsides are rich in wild thyme, St. John's wort, yarrow and many other species of exceptional phytochemical purity.
• Cer and Rudnik, mountains of central Serbia, offer habitats of medicinal plants untouched by urbanization, with a rich clay and limestone substrate that contributes to the nutritional value of plants.
• Tara, as part of the National Park, provides a nature reserve with more than 1,000 plant species, many of which have proven medicinal properties. Access to these species is possible only with special permits and under strict ecological supervision.
Hand picking while respecting the natural rhythm
All herbs used by Alternativa Medica are collected exclusively by hand, by professionally trained staff, who know the proper way and time to pick each plant species. Our pickers do not use machines, do not disturb the plant's root system when it is not necessary, and respect the rhythms of the vegetation so that the plant population can naturally regenerate.
Organic cultivation from own plantations
In addition to collecting in the wild, Alternativa Medica also has its own plantations of medicinal plants, grown according to the principles of organic agriculture. These controlled plantings provide additional quantities of top quality herbs, without the use of pesticides, herbicides or artificial fertilizers. In this way, we additionally contribute to the preservation of natural habitats, but also to the safety and cleanliness of the final product.
Our ethical and environmental pledge
Alternative Medica is guided by the belief that nature is an ally to be respected, not a resource to be exploited. Through all stages — from harvesting to the finished product — we apply standards that ensure environmental sustainability, controlled use of resources and high quality of raw materials.
With these principles, we contribute not only to the creation of effective herbal preparations, but also to the preservation of Serbia's valuable natural heritage.
